Jay the Unseen (
2016-04-01 05:27 am (UTC)
[Miriam's stare makes the back of his neck prickle. Some part of Jay that's still thirteen, back when he was in the middle of finding and stumbling awkwardly over his own opinions, wants to scowl and say something mean and cutting to Miriam so she'll stop
at him like that. He's never liked being noticed, but it's even worse when people look at his scars: they
stare and, even if they don't voice them, the questions of
who did that to you
hang heavily in the air. These first, uncertain moments of the morning are the worst parts of his impulsive decision to not
be perfectly presentable in the common areas of the living space.
But then, it passes. Her attention moves elsewhere, the muscles in the back of his neck relax, and he can focus on dishing Miriam up some crepes.]
[One, two, three. With the experience of someone who has made a lot of strawberry crepes in the past (they're useful for long forays into ruins, okay) Jay neatly fills and rolls them up.]
... I'm used to cooking for more people, so there's plenty.
[Miriam's less like Norma, who can pack away a truly astonishing amount of baked goods, and more like Chloe, who always waited for everyone else to pick a muffin out of the basket before taking one for herself.]
